The book, "Legendary Watering Holes: Saloons that Made Texas Famous," points out that saloons came to be known by their owners names: “The custom extended to the sign over the door, which prominently featured the owner’s name. Reputation of owner and saloon were thus inseparably intertwined. RICHARD F. SELCER, a Fort Worth native, is the author of eleven books on western, Civil War, and Fort Worth history, including Civil War America, – in the Almanacs of American Life series, Legendary Watering Holes: The Saloons That Made Texas Famous, and A History of Fort Worth in Black and White: Years of African American Life.

For years it served as a legendary hangout for Second City comedians and blue-collar regulars. The Old Town watering hole now attracts a more gentrified crowd, but the quirky factor persists: Unique paintings of local celebrities and nude politicians fill the walls, while a bookshelf near the door provides a random assortment of reading material. There’s something for everyone: a colorful history, a vibrant arts community, legendary watering holes, the only living coral barrier reef in North America, and a kaleidoscope of wildlife—on land, at sea, and on Duval Street.

When Ian Fleming decided upon a favorite bar in Paris for James Bond, there was only one option for the discerning secret agent: the legendary Harry’s New York Bar.. As laid out in the   In The Good Rat, legendary writer Jimmy Breslin gives readers an inside look at the everyday life of the New York mafia. Breslin goes inside mob watering holes, describes famous body dumping.
